Use six numbers and the four basic operations to reach a three-digit target. Combine two numbers at a time; each number can be used once. Every daily puzzle has at least one exact solution.
How to play Target Number
- You get six numbers and a three-digit target.
- Tap a number, tap an operator (+, −, ×, ÷), then tap a second number. The two numbers are replaced by the result.
- Each number can be used only once. You do not have to use all of them.
- Only positive whole-number results are allowed: no fractions, no zero or negative results.
- Reach the target exactly to win, or submit your closest number. Within 10 counts as a success in your statistics.
Tips and strategy
- Look at the target first: is it close to a multiple of 25, 50, 75 or 100?
- Build a large number with a multiplication, then adjust with the small numbers.
- Keep a small number in reserve for the final correction.
- Use Undo freely: trying a path costs nothing.
- If you are stuck, aim for the target plus or minus a small number you still have.
Frequently asked questions
Is every puzzle solvable?
Yes. Every daily puzzle is checked by a computer solver before publishing and has at least one exact solution, which is shown at the end.
Do I have to use all six numbers?
No. You can use as many or as few numbers as you like.
Why was my operation rejected?
Results must be positive whole numbers. Subtraction that gives zero or less, or division that does not divide exactly, is not allowed.
How is success counted?
An exact answer is a perfect score. Ending within 10 of the target still counts as a win in your statistics; the distribution shows how close you got.
Is it the same puzzle in every language?
Yes. The numbers and target are the same worldwide on the same day.
